We are living in strange and unpredictable times, however we want to assure you that no matter what MCA will be here for you to provide arts opportunities to help get through these time both mentally and physically. In light of the Coronavirus outbreak, MCA’s dedicated staff and faculty have been working hard to bring the arts, routine, and community right into your living room (kitchen, bedroom, or garage). We have a variety of offerings ranging from in-person at Valencia Arts Center, in-person outside, on-demand, self-paced low and no tech experiences, as well as real-time virtual classes. To help our community create at-home we have a variety of at-home visual art kit’s and tap boards for sale in our boutique. All in-person classes and programs follow our strict COVID Code of Conduct.

Prairie Fire Children's Theatre and MCA presents Snow White
Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will be back to Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts. Area students ages 7-18 are invited to join the cast of “Snow White.” This original Prairie Fire Children's Theatre adaption can have up to 73 local young people (and adults if applicable) to play the roles of Snow White, The Prince, The Seven Dwarfs, The Mirror, The Ravens, The Spellbinders, The Forest Creatures and the Townspeople. Two professional actors from Prairie Fire will direct the show and will also portray the Huntsman and the Evil Queen. Any student registered will be cast in this week-long production. No prior theatre experience is required. All cast members are required to participate in the audition process on April 23 to determine their role. Cast members MUST be available for rehearsals April 24-27, Monday- Friday, 4-8:15 p.m. and performances on Friday, April 28th, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 29th, at 2 p.m. Performances are in MCA’s Academy Theatre at the Valéncia Arts Center.
The fee to participate is $75 (need-based scholarships are available).
The community will be invited to the performances on April 28 at 7:00pm and April 29 at 2pm. Tickets are $8 for Adults and $5 for students (Tickets-on sale during MCA business hours April 24-28 and 1 hour prior to performances at the door. Cash or check only.)
All rehearsals and performances will follow MCA's COVID Code of Conduct.
MCA Main reACTion Improv Troupe
Ready to take your improv skills to the next level? If so, Main reACTion is for you! The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is seeking creative quick-thinkers (ages 8-18) to join the Main reACTion Improv Troupe for the Fall 2022 semester which runs September - January. Main reACTion’s school-year troupe rehearses twice monthly and will perform at a few local venues in Winona. Our 2nd semester will run February - June and for those who take part in the Fall semester, they would not need to audition again in February.
Those auditioning should bring a short story, poem, or other spoken word script to read in an exciting way. There will also be provided, two or three options for readings. Those auditioning should also bring a calendar with any vacation, known school year activities or end of summer activities on it to note conflicts on the audition form. Troupe members will be selected based on their ability to think on their feet, make quick decisions, stage presence, ability to work with others, and variety of ideas. There is no fee to audition, but troupe members will be asked to pay $60 to participate for Sept.- Jan. 2023, which covers all instruction for monthly rehearsals and a T-shirt.
Main ReACTion was established in June 2019 as an activity that was part of Artists on Main Street, a partnership between Winona Main Street, the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, and Springboard for the Arts with support from the Bush Foundation. Thanks to the interest and success of the troupe will continue to provide a creative outlet to area youth and entertain community members of all ages.
Auditions: Saturday, September 24th 2:00-3:30pm in the Academy Theatre at MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center (1164 W. 10th Street, Winona, MN)
Age: 8-18 years

Fees: Free (students will need a pen (preferably a thin felt tip pen or marker), pencil, eraser, paper, and a round object for tracing such as a canning lid or tuna can.

1001 Arab Futures
Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is thrilled to be partnering with The Cedar Tree Project, curated by Keoxa/Winona, MN based dance/interdisciplinary artist Sharon Mansur is thrilled to present 1001 Arab Futures. 1001 Arab Futures is an intimate outdoor site-specific solo dance performance and visual installation contemplating imaginative visions, past reckonings, embodied truths and other future potentials from the SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African)/Arab diaspora.
Add a little Music to your Summer
Summer is the perfect time to try a new instrument, explore a new style of playing, or maintain & grow what you learned in your lessons during the school year. MCA offers instruction for all ages in almost every instrument, including voice, piano, guitar, oboe, trumpet, percussion, saxophone, violin, cello and more. With the choice of registering for 4, 8 or 12 weeks of lessons and a talented faculty of nearly 30 music instructors, MCA will find the instructor and package that is perfect for you! Currently all private lessons are being held virtually, however beginning May 10th we are starting to welcome back private lesson students into the building, while still observing strict COVID measures including social distancing and masking.
Winona Grows Art Hunt Map & More
Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is excited to invite the community to join in a COVID friendly community wide mystery art hunt, “Winona Grows”. Between April 17-May 1 oil pastel artwork created by Winona area artists of all ages will be on display in windows of area businesses and outside in public spaces. Not only will participants get to view beautiful Winona and spring themed artwork but they will also get to explore Winona and solve a mystery. Next to the artwork in each location clues will be given to a poem created by Winonan Miranda Harper.
