With busy work and school schedules we know it can be hard to find time to do things as a family so in addition to producing a variety of music, theatre and dance performances for you and your family to enjoy we have multi-age classes that will help families make memories, get creative and learn together. Below are descriptions of our Family Classes, but you may also want to check out our Events listing to find out about #MCAontheGo events & performances out in the community.
My Grown up & Me
Does your child love to move? Children ages 18 mos.–3 years are invited to explore a new environment and connect with a special grown-up in their life. This class will stimulate coordination, balance, and listening skills and will be filled with smiles to last a lifetime! Grown-ups attending will be asked to participate along with their child.
Date: Thursdays, Aug. 29–Nov. 14 (No class Sept. 19 and Oct. 31)
Time: 5:30–6 pm Age: 18 mo.–3 years (by Aug. 1)

Parents! Come learn how to teach your little one the guitar and have fun doing it. Geared for parents with children ages 4-6 years old, The Suzuki Guitar Method is based on the way a child acquires language. Besides instilling the gift of music, it is also an opportunity to bond with your child while teaching socialization skills, patience, persistence, community, respect, problem solving, and joyful participation. Our instructor, Kerry Klungtvedt, is a nationally registered Suzuki Teacher with many years of experience. This program is comprised of a mix of parent only, parent & child, group and private lessons. For this exciting pilot program participation is very limited but guitars will be issued to both parents and children to use throughout the program.
Winter: Saturdays, Jan. 28-March 25
Time: class 10:00am-10:30am, lesson scheduled directly prior or after

We are the Willows Homeschool Songwriting & Storytelling Workshop
Come join the musicians of We are the Willows to discuss the creation of their album, Picture (Portrait), based on 350 letters sent between lead singer/songwriter Peter Miller's grandparents in WWII. Workshop participants will explore their own family histories and discuss creative processes, develop creative habits and practices, and explore songwriting and storytelling together.

On Saturday Sept, 7, 2019 the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts’ Dance Repertory Company (DRC) will be holding auditions for DRC II Winter Showcase. The 2019 theme will be “Animals on Parade”. This exciting dance concert will feature ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and modern dance set to music inspired or about animals.

Ready to take your improv skills to the next level? If so, Main reACTion is for you! The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is seeking 10–15 creative quick-thinkers to form the Main reACTion Improv Troupe for the 2019–2020 school-year. Main reACTion’s school-year troupe will perform at 1–2 locations/events per month. Auditions will be held on on Sunday, Aug. 11, 6-8pm in the Academy Theatre at MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center (1164 W. 10th Street, Winona, MN).
