Early Childhood Dance Programs

Dance Classes for children

ages 18 months – 6 years

Due to COVID- 19 our earlychildhood offerings are very limited, but we hope that soon we will be back to offering, Boys in Motion (ages 4-6), Creative Movement (ages 3-5), Pre-Ballet for 4 and 5 Year-olds, Beginning Ballet (6 years), Irish (Beginning at 5 years), Tap Dance (beginning at 5) and Hip Hop Dance (beginning at 6). 

Dance Adventures

Do you have a little one who loves to twist and spin and dance around the room? If so, they will love this sampler class, which is a blend of creative movement, ballet technique and games. Students will love expressing themselves through movement, gaining knowledge of different dance forms ,and benefiting from moving in space with others.

Day/Dates: Mondays, Jan. 25-Apr. 19

Time: 4:15-4:45 p.m.

Age: 4-6 years (by Jan. 1)

Beginning Hip Hop

Get ready to move to the beat in this fun introduction into the world of hip hop dance with music and moves just right for your age. These classes are a perfect way to add a little cardio into your week in a fun and safe way from the comfort of your own home. No experience necessary.

Students will just need a little space and a device enabled with Wi-Fi. We will be using Zoom and will enable cameras so if students wish to be able to interact with the instructor and other students, otherwise families can choose to not share their image. We recommend students wear sneakers if they have them and have a water bottle near by to set them up for success.

Day/Dates: Tuesdays, Jan. 26- Apr. 20

Time: 2:15-3:00 PM

Ages: 6+ years

Cost: $78 (13 weeks, 9.75 hours)

Nutcracker Adventure Kit

You can still celebrate Nutcracker Season through dance and art this year with our at-home Nutcracker Adventure Kit. This fun kit comes complete with a 5” wood nutcracker for you to paint, 6 colors of paint, a paint brush, dancing scarf, MCA nutcracker activity book, and access to a pre-recorded MCA Nutcracker Storytime. 

Day & Dates: Kit’s available Dec. 1- 20

Ages: Recommended 4+

Instructor: Self-Paced 

Fees: $12 (includes at-home Nutcracker themed art kit, dancing scarf & on-demand access to pre-recorded MCA Nutcracker Storytime with pick-up or delivery in Winona or for an additional $12 kits can be mailed anywhere in the US)

MCA Holiday Tap Jam

Calling all tappers! Our Annual Tap Jam is going virtual. Tap students ages 5 and older are invited to participate in this fun-filled Holiday Tap Jam. This jam is open to tappers everywhere. Participants will be given access to a video to learn a short tap warm-up and combination during the week leading up and will receive a little goody bag to enhance the Zoom session (accessible for pick-up in Winona only, a list of items will be given to non-local students). The live Zoom celebration will include games, sharing, and conversation. For the live online session, students will just need a little space (safe to tap, such as a tap board*), tap shoes, and a device enabled with Wi-Fi. We will be using Zoom and will enable cameras so if students wish to be able to interact with the instructor and other students, otherwise families can choose to not share their image.

Day/Date:  Video access 1 week prior, Zoom on Friday, Dec. 18 (see time listed below)

Levels/Ages/Zoom Time:

Tap for Kids, 4:15-4:45 pm (ages 5-7)
Tap I, 5:00-5:30 pm (ages 8+, less than 3 years of tap experience)
Tap II and II-III, 5:45-6:30 pm (10+, and or 3-5 years tap experience)
Tap III, IV, V, 6:45-7:45 pm (approx. ages 12+ and or 5+ years of tap experience)

Tap On-Demand

These pre-recorded tap classes for Beginning (MCA Tap for Kids/ Beg. Tap/Tap I), Intermediate (MCA Tap II Level), and Advanced (MCA Tap Levels III-V) provide challenging and fun warm-ups, technique instruction and combinations that can be executed at home.*

Dates: On-Demand/ Self-Paced

Instructors: Nathan Graff, Carter Full, Christine Martin, and Justine Meinke

Fees & Levels:

Tap for Kids/ Tap I Unit: $24 (4 classes including warm-ups, tap technique and combos, plus bonus content)- Available around Dec. 1, 2020

Tap II Unit: $24 (4 classes including warm-ups, tap technique and combos, plus bonus content)

Tap III-V Unit: $49 (8 classes including warm-ups, tap technique and combos, plus bonus content)

*MCA has tap shoes and tap boards that can be checked out to local students, as well as both boards and shoes for purchase. Contact the MCA office at mca@smumn.edu for more information.

 

Musical Theatre Dance (Ages 6-9)

Unleash your creative side while dancing to new and classic songs from the Broadway stage.  Dancers will work on perfecting dance technique while bringing a character to life.

Students will just need a little space to move freely, and a device enabled with Wi-Fi. We will be using Zoom and will enable cameras so if students wish to be able to interact with the instructor and other students, otherwise families can choose to not share their image. We recommend students wear dance apparel and shoes if they have them and have a water bottle near by to set them up for success.

Day/Dates: Mondays, Dec. 7, 14, Jan. 4 & 11

Time:  3-3:45 PM

Age: 6-9 years

Location: Online via Zoom

Price: $21 (4 classes, 3 hours)
