Seeding Vitality Art Workshops

Adult Fitness & Dance Classes

Adult Tap @ the Levee

Check fresh air and exercise off your list at the same time. Join us at Levee Park for this fun, rhythm-filled class. No experience necessary. An introduction to tap dance. All levels welcome, no experience necessary. Join us for a toe-tappin’, foot stompin’ good time! For the safety of all participants these classes will follow strict guidelines such as limited numbers of students, social distancing, and masks worn by all before, during, and after class.

Day/Dates: Tuesdays, Sept. 1- Oct. 13 (built in weather make-up Oct. 20)

Time:  5:30-6:30 p.m.

Age: 14 and older

Location: Levee Park, Downtown Winona (58 Center St, Winona, MN 55987)

Fee: $59 (7 weeks, 7 hours)

Limited number of tap boards available to use for a deposit. Locally produced tap boards available for purchase through MCA. Tap shoes available in most sizes available through our tap shoe lending program. Please contact MCA by Aug. 24 for assistance with shoes or tap boards.

Open Ballet

Experience the artistry of ballet while gaining flexibility, placement, strength, and fluidity in this ballet technique and conditioning class. All levels are welcome, no experience necessary. 

Students will just need a little space, a chair or railing to use as a ballet barre, and a device enabled with Wi-Fi. We will be using Zoom and will enable cameras so if students wish to be able to interact with the instructor and other students, otherwise students can choose to not share their image. We recommend students wear dance apparel and shoes if they have them and have a water bottle near by to set them up for success.

Barre

Are you ready for a new challenge?  Make the time in your schedule for this high-energy, low-impact workout taught by a certified instructor. A unique combination of strength work and cardio intervals that will reshape your muscles while elevating your heart rate. You will leave stronger in both body and mind.  Whether you have a limited or extensive background in dance, you will love this fast-moving, fun style of exercise. Attend twice a week for optimal results! 

Students will just need a little space, a chair or railing to use as a ballet barre, and a device enabled with Wi-Fi. We will be using Zoom and will enable cameras so if students wish to be able to interact with the instructor and other students, otherwise students can choose to not share their image. Cardio Barre

Please join us from your living room (kitchen or bedroom) for a barre class with added emphasis on cardio to help you build up and maintain cardiovascular health and stamina. All you need is a little space with a chair to serve as your barre, a bit of floor space, and 2 lb. hand weights (or even two can's of soup). This class is taught by a certified instructor. A unique combination of strength work and cardio intervals that will reshape your muscles while elevating your heart rate. You will leave stronger in both body and mind. Stretch & Relax

Melt your stress away during this deep stretch and relaxation class. This class uses gentle fitness and yoga techniques to release tension, relieve muscle soreness, rejuvenate joints and improve overall mind/body health, wellness and awareness. The final portion of class includes relaxation instruction to help you head peacefully into the weekend. No experience necessary.

Adult Art Classes

Doodle Club

Join Miss. Lisa and other MCA community members virtually for a live and interactive art session. Each week students will have a chance to unwind from their day as they explore using shapes, lines and patterns to create new doodle designs. Come create and even relax the mind with us.

Students will just need a device enabled with Wi-Fi, white 8 1/2 x 11 typing paper, pencil, eraser and fine line felt tip black pen. Additionally, colored pencils or markers can be used to enhance creations, but are not required. Please make sure to enroll in this class at least 4 hours prior to class start time to ensure you get the Zoom link in time.

This class is free, however if you are find value in this program, our MCA Moments and want to help ensure MCA is able to continue to offer engaging programming during these challenging times and beyond, please consider making a donation if you are able.

Playful Postcards: Artist Study

It's time to get creative and have a little fun sending and receiving colorful postcards. Each student will receive a special art kit to keep that includes everything you need to get started including blank postcards, stamps, watercolor pencils, paint brush, glue stick, fun paper, and weekly lesson plans. All you will be asked to do is to explore new art techniques inspired by an artist then create and send a postcard a week to a classmate. Miss. Brianna will also check in with students throughout the program via a desired contact via digital platform or by phone which will be determined at a later date. (includes all art supplies & Winona Delivery or pick-up)*

Dates: Sept. 10-Oct. 29 (self-paced)

Mystery Art Kit

Sick of hearing “I’m Bored”?  We have just the cure… our MCA Mystery Art Kits will inspire and provide hours of unplugged entertainment. No two kits are the same and they are designed with the student’s age  in mind. Order yours today and let the adventure begin! Each unique kit will contain:

  •  One set of coloring supplies such as oil pastels, colored pencils, paint, watercolor pencils, crayons or markers
  • One binding material such as elmer’s glue, mod podge, glue stick, or masking tape
  • A variety of surfaces to create on such as a postcard, book mark, artist paper, exclusive coloring pages created by MCA staff,  and or construction paper.
  • An art challenge guide created by MCA art faculty to help spark the artist within
  • Other surprise items such as model magic, stickers, DIY masks, or props
  • Links to previously recorded MCA visual art classes (if you have purchased a kit, here is the link to the password protected special access site.)
  • Invitation to share photos of your creations to be featured on MCA’s social media

Dates: Available Aug. 1- Dec. 15 (self-paced)

Instructors: Self-paced booklet with 8 creative challenges created by Brianna Haupt and access to recordings of previously recorded MCA Art Classes.

Adult Music Programs 

Private Lessons

MCA offers private lessons for all ages and abilities! Our experienced teaching artists prepare students for a lifetime enjoyment of music.

Private lessons are offered year-round. Instruction available in flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, violin, cello, guitar, bass. piano, percussion, and voice. Students will be expected to purchase method books the instructor feels best address the student’s needs. Students have the opportunity to perform during MCA’s annual fall, winter and summer concerts and other performance opportunities based upon instructor recommendations. Some instruments such as the violin, guitar and piano are better suited for young students, if you have a young child who is interested in learning an instrument please contact us at 507-453-5500 for more information or by filling out a registration form indicating an instrument of interest. Many instruments are also being offered online during the COVID-19 Outbreak.

  • 4, 30 minute lessons- $76
  • 8, 30 minute lessons- $144
  • 12, 30 minute lessons- $204

45 minute and 1 hour lessons may be arranged for more advanced students.

University Student Dance Connection

If you are currently enrolled in a university or college, present your student I.D. when registering and receive a 50% discount off your total MCA dance tuition. Not applicable for private music or dance lessons.

Adult Arts Wellness Discount

Parents who have a child/children enrolled at MCA may enjoy any of our adult course offerings at a reduced fee of $20. This is limited to one class per parent during the semester in which the student is also registered.

University Credit

A variety of upper level dance credits including Ballet III-VI, Jazz III/IV, Tap III/IV and Modern III/IV may be taken for University credit by Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota students. Students in their junior and senior years of high school who participate in Post Secondary Education option may also take selected MCA classes for Saint Mary’s University credit. With busy work and school schedules we know it can be hard to find time to do things as a family so in addition to producing a variety of music, theatre and dance performances for you and your family to enjoy we have four classes that will help families make memories, get creative and learn together. Due to COVID-19 Fall at MCA will look different, however we are proud to say that we are still here to provide quality arts education opportunities. As artists and educators we are getting creative to ensure that we have options for everyone. From in-person ballet classes, Tapping Tuesdays outside at the Winona Levee, and online hip hop class to art kits with on-demand recordings and private music lessons we are hear to be your creative and physical outlet during these challenging times. MCA partners with Project FINE for Welcoming Week

Project FINE is hosting an art contest to celebrate Welcoming Week in partnership with the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA), the Minnesota Marine Art Museum and River Arts Alliance. Welcoming Week is an annual celebration that brings together immigrants, refugees
and long-term residents to build unity and a sense of belonging. This year, Welcoming Week will be celebrated from September 12-20.

You can do all of these at once when you choose to join us during our Fall 2020 Open House week, August 17-22. Throughout the week you can experience free dance and art classes, take in virtual performances of talented local performers, and take a stroll with your family through our “MCA Choose Your Own Adventure Winona Walk” in the green space between MCA and the Alverna Center/ Chapel of the Angels.
