Creative Aging Workshops

Adult Fitness & Dance Classes

Barre

Are you ready for a new challenge?  Make the time in your schedule for this high-energy, low-impact workout taught by a certified instructor. A unique combination of strength work and cardio intervals that will reshape your muscles while elevating your heart rate. You will leave stronger in both body and mind.  Whether you have a limited or extensive background in dance, you will love this fast-moving, fun style of exercise. Attend twice a week for optimal results! 

Students will just need a little space, a chair or railing to use as a ballet barre, and a device enabled with Wi-Fi. We will be using Zoom and will enable cameras so if students wish to be able to interact with the instructor and other students, otherwise students can choose to not share their image. We recommend students wear fitness apparel, participate barre foot and have a water bottle near by to set them up for success.

Cardio Barre

Please join us from your living room (kitchen or bedroom) for a barre class with added emphasis on cardio to help you build up and maintain cardiovascular health and stamina. All you need is a little space with a chair to serve as your barre, a bit of floor space, and 2 lb. hand weights (or even two can's of soup). This class is taught by a certified instructor. A unique combination of strength work and cardio intervals that will reshape your muscles while elevating your heart rate. You will leave stronger in both body and mind. Whether you have a limited or extensive background in dance, you will love this fast moving, fun style of exercise. Ages 14+.

Stretch & Relax

Melt your stress away during this deep stretch and relaxation class. This class uses gentle fitness and yoga techniques to release tension, relieve muscle soreness, rejuvenate joints and improve overall mind/body health, wellness and awareness. The final portion of class includes relaxation instruction to help you head peacefully into the weekend. No experience necessary.

Adult Art Classes

Let it Snow!

Inspired by snow, chilly weather, and the winter celebrations this class will teach you how to create unique gifts and decor. The class fee includes an at-home art kit that will include Shrinky Dink paper, model magic, metallic markers, extra fine point sharpie, suction cups, and more. Students will be asked to have a single hole punch, additionally washable markers and cookie cutters may be useful. Please register one week prior to ensure you have your at-home art kit in time. 

Day/ Dates: Mondays, Nov. 16-Dec. 7

Time: 2-3 PM

Age: 55+

Fees: $24* (includes at-home art kit with pick-up or delivery in Winona or for an additional $12 kits can be mailed anywhere in the US, students will be asked to have a single hole punch, additionally washable markers and cookie cutters may be useful)

Doodle Club

Join Miss. Lisa and other MCA community members virtually for a live and interactive art session. Each week students will have a chance to unwind from their day as they explore using shapes, lines and patterns to create new doodle designs. Come create and even relax the mind with us.

Students will just need a device enabled with Wi-Fi, white 8 1/2 x 11 typing paper, pencil, eraser and fine line felt tip black pen. Additionally, colored pencils or markers can be used to enhance creations, but are not required. Please make sure to enroll in this class at least 4 hours prior to class start time to ensure you get the Zoom link in time.

This class is free, however if you are find value in this program, our MCA Moments and want to help ensure MCA is able to continue to offer engaging programming during these challenging times and beyond, please consider making a donation if you are able.

MCA Doodle Kit

Take your doodling to the next level with this handy Doodle Kit. This kit is perfect for use during MCA's Doodle Club, virtual classes or instruction videos online.

What's included (colors or brands may vary): White, Silver, and Gold Gelly Roll Pens, blending stump (tortillion), Ebony Pencil, 12 colored pencils, pencil sharpener,12 Artist Tiles, 12 Black Bookmarks and extra fine point sharpie inside of a zippered pouch.

Dates: Available October 20- May 31 (self-paced)

Fees:  $19 (at-home art kit with pick-up or delivery in Winona or for an additional $12 kits can be mailed anywhere in the US)

Adult Music Programs 

Private Lessons

MCA offers private lessons for all ages and abilities! Our experienced teaching artists prepare students for a lifetime enjoyment of music.

Private lessons are offered year-round. Instruction available in flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, violin, cello, guitar, bass. piano, percussion, and voice. Students will be expected to purchase method books the instructor feels best address the student’s needs. Students have the opportunity to perform during MCA’s annual fall, winter and summer concerts and other performance opportunities based upon instructor recommendations. Some instruments such as the violin, guitar and piano are better suited for young students, if you have a young child who is interested in learning an instrument please contact us at 507-453-5500 for more information or by filling out a registration form indicating an instrument of interest. Many instruments are also being offered online during the COVID-19 Outbreak.

  • 4, 30 minute lessons- $76

  • 12, 30 minute lessons- $204

45 minute and 1 hour lessons may be arranged for more advanced students.

Caroling

It’s not the holidays without a little caroling, Whether you are 10 or 110 you are invited to join us in song. During this casual event we will gather outside in song to sing through a list of holiday favorites (song booklet provided prior). Singers of all ages and experience levels are invited and should dress for the weather, as well as be prepared to sing while wearing a mask and observing social distancing guidelines.

Music & Discounts

University Student Dance Connection

If you are currently enrolled in a university or college, present your student I.D. when registering and receive a 50% discount off your total MCA dance tuition. Not applicable for private music or dance lessons.

Adult Arts Wellness Discount

Parents who have a child/children enrolled at MCA may enjoy any of our adult course offerings at a reduced fee of $20. This is limited to one class per parent during the semester in which the student is also registered.

University Credit

A variety of upper level dance credits including Ballet III-VI, Jazz III/IV, Tap III/IV and Modern III/IV may be taken for University credit by Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota students. Students in their junior and senior years of high school who participate in Post Secondary Education option may also take selected MCA classes for Saint Mary’s University credit. With busy work and school schedules we know it can be hard to find time to do things as a family so in addition to producing a variety of music, theatre and dance performances for you and your family to enjoy we have four classes that will help families make memories, get creative and learn together. Virtual Gallery Walk and Artist Celebration

On Saturday, November 7 at 10am the community is invited to join Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) and the artists of Playful Postcards: Artist Study for a Virtual Gallery Walk and Artist Celebration via Zoom. This event will highlight the work of eight talented community artists who participated in MCA’s Playful Postcards: Artist Study class throughout September and October.

Unlock Your Creativity

We know times are strange, but we also know that art can be a great way to help you get through these times. Whether you are a parent of a child who just needs some new art supplies to help spark their imagination or if you an adult who needs to make a little room in their schedule to relax while also learning something new, we have a kit for you. Kit details are below, both of our kits are designed to promote creativity, and provide experience with new mediums and tools. Both kits also come with access to a series of previously recorded visual art classes that can be watched on-demand at a time that works for you or your family. The class subjects range a great deal covering art techniques and materials ranging from creating landscapes oil pastels, perspective drawing, lettering techniques, creating with model magic and more.
