Dramatic play and theatre classes not only prepare your child to step into the spotlight but they can also help your child’s development of life skills which will set them on a path for a successful life in which ever career they choose. It’s been such a busy and wonderful fall at MCA and we are so thankful to everyone who joined us for classes, performances, lessons and exhibits. We know it is a busy time of year, but we wanted to take moment to just make sure you knew about some of the exciting and important things happening at MCA, so please please read the updates below on text messaging, music scholarships, Friends of MCA, schedule changes, and more.
The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts music division invites the community to our Fall Concert inside MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center on Friday, Dec. 13 5:30 and 7pm. Both concerts will feature music students of all ages and experience levels including both youth and adults playing a variety of music and instruments including piano, voice and violin.
Have you been waiting to order an MCA sweatshirt? Now is your chance. The sweatshirts feature a full zipper and will have the beautiful image attached that was designed by Melissa Schnieder of Wenonah Creates. Names can be added to the sleeve for a small fee. Orders will be collected by Monday, Dec. 9th and will be ready for pick up prior to the Christmas holiday.
Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) will hold open auditions in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota for our 18th annual Summer Dance Intensive boarding summer camp (one of the only boarding summer dance intensives in Minnesota!). Thanks to positive feedback the SDI will once again be 3-weeks! The Dance Intensive will held July 5-25, 2020 in Winona, Minnesota. MCA, is an affiliate program of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and invites intermediate and advanced dancers between the ages of 11 and 22, who are ready for their dance technique to soar to new heights to audition.
Have you been waiting for just the right time to check out one of our classes? The wait is now over, MCA is having a Free-4-All… a day of free classes on Jan. 4, 2020, for the whole family! This event will feature classes for both youth and adults — so bring some friends and try a class or two. All classes are free. Space is limited so preregistration is recommended online, by phone or in person. This year you can try out new classes including our youth contemporary dance class and Balletone, our new adult fitness class!
MCA Holiday Tap Jam to Warm-up Winona Calling all tappers! Tap students ages 5 and older are invited to participate in this fun-filled Holiday Tap Jam on Tuesday, Dec. 10th. The workshop will include technique warm-ups, choreography, and improvisation — all to some favorite holiday tunes! New this year instead of collecting a fee, we are collecting donations of warm clothing or food to warm bellies will be collected to be donated locally.
Each session we try to offer a few new programs, this winter will be no exception. Below is a little sneak peek at our new programs. Online registration will open Nov. 1st, 2019. Don’t forget to register to participate in our 5th Annual Free-4-All on Jan. 4th to try new classes and old favorites out for free!
Since 1969, the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Reflections program has encouraged students across the nation to explore their artistic talents. The PTA Reflections program is designed to promote cultural arts in schools, encouraging students to create works of art in visual arts, photography, literature, music, dance, film and special artist categories. Every March since 2016 the walls of Galleria Valéncia have been adorned with all of the Minnesota state winners visual arts division of the Minnesota State PTA Reflections program. For the second consecutive year MCA is now a registered Northstar Minnesota PTA unit in good standing and any area youth in Preschool-Twelfth Grade is able to submit a work into the Reflections program now- Jan. 15, 2020 through MCA. The program is open to any area youth that has been an MCA student within the past year, as long as the student’s school does not have a PTA unit regardless if they attend a public, private, charter school or are home educated.
Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) invites the community to a unique exhibit featuring the work of printmaking artists ages of all levels who participated in a recent workshop for ages 55+ alongside teens from Riverway Learning Community. On Tuesday, November 19, 4:30-6 pm the community is invited to an open house, where they can meet and greet the artists and walk though Galleria Valencia inside Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts’ home, the Valencia Arts Center (1164 W. 10th Street, Winona) to view completed projects created during the generational printmaking class.
