Looking to experience the arts this summer or want to sample what Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) has to offer without having to commit to a whole class or camp? You are in luck, below is a list of performances you are invited to attend and community events that we will be a part of.
Sunday, June 2- Join in on Winona’s National Tap Dance Day Celebration, 3pm in the Academy Theatre inside MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center. This free celebration will include a showcase featuring tap students ages 5-Adults, a display about the history of tap dance, and will include a short tap lesson so attendees can join in the fun (Tap shoes provided in most sizes).
Tuesdays, June 11-Aug. 6- Explore a different downtown spot on 3rd street (between Main Street & Layfette Street) each Tuesday night of the summer (with the exception of July 2), 6:30-7:30pm while taking in a performance of MCA’s new acting improvisational troupe, Main reACTion. This activity is part of Artists on Main Street, a partnership between Winona Main Street, the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, and Springboard for the Arts with support from the Bush Foundation.
Monday, June 24- MCA staff will once again lead a Maker Monday program during the Winona Public Library’s summer reading program, 10:30-11:30am.
Friday, June 28- Enjoy a short dance showcase featuring campers from MCA’s Junior Training Program for Dancers. This free performance at 6:30pm will be in the in the Academy Theatre inside MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center and include ballet, jazz, hip hop and more.
Thursday, July 18- Enjoy an evening of musical entertainment by students of all ages and levels in a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, voice, violin, trumpet, and more during MCA’s Music Division Concert in the Academy Theatre inside MCA’s home, the Valencia Arts Center at a TBA time.
Saturday, July 27- Local and boarding students from MCA’s Summer Dance Intensive will perform a showcase highlighting a variety of dance styles including ballet, pointe, hip hop, modern and musical theatre learned during their 3-week camp. The free showcase will be in the Page Theatre on the Saint Mary’s University campus at 7pm.
Saturday, August 24- Meet MCA Instructors, take a tour, enjoy a treat and even check out our new piano lab and get crafty during MCA’s Fall Open House 10am-Noon.
Saturday, Sept. 7- Don’t miss the Winona art making opportunity of the year. MCA along with many local artists and organizations will be at the Jaycee Pavilion by the East Lake in Winona with a fun activity for artists of all ages. The event is sponsored by River Arts Alliance and has a history of amazing projects to explore including Pottery, drumming, puppet making, cartooning, Fish (Gyotaku) Printing and more.
Of course all of these amazing performances and community events are in addition to our regular programming which includes private music lessons, dance classes, summer camps and more. Also, if you are interested in helping to support MCA please consider selecting MCA as your Fun for Funds if you or a family member are running in the BK 5K Road Race on June 15 or visit the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, WI on Sept. 7, 6-10pm and by a 50/50 raffle ticket for a chance to help MCA and for a chance to win big.
