This year our annual “Create a Comic” workshop not only falls on Free Comic Book Day, but it also conveniently lands on May the 4th. So we are calling all comic book loving Star Wars fan creatives to come celebrate Free Comic Book Day and Star Wars Day with us!
Free Comic Book Day (Always the first Saturday in May). Free Comic Book Day was established in 2002 and is a day that participating comic book store retailers give away specially printed copies of free comic books and celebrate the art of comic books. May the 4th is also known as Star Wars Day and celebrates George Lucas’ Star Wars. The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase “May the Force be with you” as “May the Fourth be with you”.
MCA will be offering workshops for three different age groups in which young artists will celebrate the art of comic books and learn how to create their very own. Drawing Comics is a great way to promote literacy skills and a way for kids to flex their creative muscles.
The workshops are is on Saturday, May 4th, 9-10am for students in grade K-2nd, 10:15-11:45am for 3rd-5th grade students, and 12-1:30pm for students in grades 6+. Each workshop is only $15 per participant (sibling discounts available).
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
