Looking to improve your health, happiness and well being? Why not explore the arts this spring and summer? Research from the University of Western Australia suggests that exposure to the arts for just two hours every week can drastically improve your mental health and overall well-being. It can be active exposure, like painting or taking a dance class or passive exposure, like strolling through a gallery or attending a performance. Lucky for you and your family we have plenty of options for you to engage in the arts. On March 11th, 2019, registration for our Spring/ Summer session opens and we hope you are excited as we are about our new offerings and the popular camps and classes that are returning. Below is a little peek at some of our new and or improved programs to look forward to, also don’t forget that you can save big bucks on our summer camps if you register by May 1. New or Re-Structured 2019 Camps
Brand new camp for ages 3 years- 1st grade!
Come join us on a journey to the Pacific rim where you will make new friends as you dance stories with your hands and feet, drum island beats, craft your own lei and much more during this artistic and imaginative adventure. Families are invited to an open house at 10:15 am on the last day of camp.
Dates: August 12-16, M-F

Ages: Preschool (3-5 years) & K-1st grade (students must be potty-trained)

NEW! Young Dancer Intensive
Do you dance in your dreams and everywhere you go? Grab your dancing shoes and get ready to spin and soar. We will start each day off with ballet to build a strong dance foundation, then explore a “genre of the day” class including jazz, modern, or hip hop and end the day with a creative class such as costume design or acting to ignite your imagination and performance skills. No dance experience necessary.
Dates: June 24-28, M-F
Time: 1-4 pm
Age: 6-9 years
Fee: $119, Fee includes a camp t-shirt. Students will need to bring a snack and water bottle daily.

Join us for an exciting week of rhythm! TAP CAMP will include classes in tap technique, repertory, improvisation, body percussion, music theory and concepts for the tap dancer, tap history, and tap in films. TAP CAMP will hold new challenges for beginning, intermediate, and advanced tappers.
Dancers should bring a water bottle and snack each day. An informal demonstration for family and friends will be held on Friday, Aug. 2nd at 5:00 pm followed by a potluck pizza party! Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, come on dancers, it's TAP CAMP time!

Winona Arts Camp 2019
Join MCA and Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) for the 5th annual integrated arts summer camp. Once again students will get to rank their class choice of visual and performing arts they want to explore, having the opportunity to be immersed in four subjects a day. From puppet creation and creative journaling to learning chords on a guitar, there are plenty of options to satisfy the artist in everyone. Back by popular demand, there will be an all camp talent show on Friday morning and families are invited to attend a lively showcase at 3 pm on Friday afternoon. Once you have registered online or in-person, please fill out the class choice form.

Brand new art workshop for ages 55+
Take time out of your day to channel your inner artist in written and visual expression. This process-based approach to creating will allow attendees to learn techniques in drawing, painting, and mixed media while using a journal format. Your intuition will guide you as you fill the pages.

Class Piano for Adults: Keyboard Musicianship Level I
Have you always wanted to learn to play the piano? Here is your chance to enjoy a low–stress introduction to the keyboard! This course is designed for students who have never taken piano lessons or have taken lessons a long time ago. The training in this class intends to create musical experiences that will enhance your keyboard playing skills and also your life. The only prerequisites are that you wish to learn and want to have fun in our brand new, state-of-the-art piano lab.

NEW! Guitar Ensemble
Come break new ground with this exciting new experience for guitar players! In this group setting, we will start with very simple music and build from there. Our director will make it easy and fun! A limited number of guitars are available upon request. Prerequisite: Basic guitar chord knowledge of C, G7, D7, G, Emin., D and A7

National Tap Dance Day workshops
Each class will include tap technique, warm-ups, and rehearsals to learn a choreographed piece to be performed at MCA’s National Tap Dance Day (NTDD) celebration in the Academy Theatre on Sunday, June 2, at 3 p.m. Each year tap celebrations are held in honor of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson’s birthday. Songwriting and Storytelling Workshop for Homeschoolers
We are the Willows Homeschool Songwriting & Storytelling Workshop
Come join the musicians of We are the Willows to discuss the creation of their album, Picture (Portrait), based on 350 letters sent between lead singer/songwriter Peter Miller's grandparents in WWII. Workshop participants will explore their own family histories and discuss creative processes, develop creative habits and practices, and explore songwriting and storytelling together.
