Since 1969, the National PTA Reflections program has encouraged students across the nation to explore their artistic talents. The PTA Reflections program is designed to promote cultural arts in schools, encouraging students to create works of art in visual arts, photography, literature, music, dance, film and special artist categories. During the Month of March, which also happens to be Youth Art Month, Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is honored to have the walls of Galleria Valéncia adorned with all of the Minnesota state winners visual arts division of the 2018 Minnesota State PTA Reflections program.

This year’s theme was “Within Reach” and the artwork displayed is from students in grades K-12. Out of over hundreds of entries, 50 winners were selected between the different divisions. Outstanding level entries have advances to the National PTA in Washington D.C. for national level judging which is currently underway, winners will be announced in April. Winning pieces are displayed including three Winona area students; Winona Middle School Students: Vianna O’Hara (1st, Outstanding Interpretation in Literature Category)and  Chloe Porter (3rd, Visual Arts). W-K Elementary Students: Hayden Brown (3rd Photography). Additionally, other entries from Winona area students in both the visual arts, literary, and photography divisions are on display for all to enjoy. Afull list of Minnesota winners can be found here.

This gallery exhibit is free and open to the public now through March 28th during office hours and while classes are in session. MCA is located inside the Valencia Arts Center at 1164 W. Howard Street at the corner of Vila in Winona. Visitors are encouraged to sign the guestbook, so that the young artists know who attended the show.
