Got a super hero fan or art lover on your hands?
Bring your kiddo to MCA for our final visual art workshop of the school year on May 7th, “Create a Comic”. This workshop is in celebration of the holiday Free Comic Book Day (Always the first Saturday in May). Free Comic Book Day was established in 2002 and is a day that participating comic book store retailers give away specially printed copies of free comic books and celebrate the art of comic books.
During the workshop young artists will learn about how to create their very own comic and give it a try. Drawing comics is a great way to promote literacy skills and for kids to flex their creative muscles. Thanks to Jimmy Jams, local Winona Comic Book Store participants will even get to take home their very own comic book.
The workshop is on Saturday May 7th, 10:30am- Noon for students in grade K-2nd and 1-2:30pm for 3rd-5th grade students and is only $15 per participant (sibling discounts available).
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts, an affiliate program of Saint Mary’s University, a nonprofit organization, offers programming in dance, music, visual art, and theatre. Classes, lessons, workshops, and camps are offered for ages 18mo. to adult at the Valéncia Arts Center, corner of 10th and Vila Streets, Winona.
