Thanks to a generous donation by Winona Health’s Community Partnership Fund, Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts is able to continue to bring theatre arts to a group of aspiring actors and actresses at the Kids First Community Center which is located inside the Maplewood Townhomes complex in Winona. Participating in this after-school program provides a safe environment as well as enriching. Each week students play theatre and movement games that keep them active, build confidence and performance skills, but they also learn from instructor Samantha Heaver how to be respectful audience member, how to think quick on their feet during improvisational exercises and as demonstrated by Lonika Wilson in the included photo, body awareness and focus as they play games such as Barricade which is a class favorite that requires students to cross to the other side of the room without making a sound with their body’s or mouths.
