Winona’s National Tap Dance Day Celebration

Each year tap celebrations are held throughout the nation in honor of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson’s birthday. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity celebrate right here in Winona! Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA), beginning through advanced tappers will be highlighted in this free performance in the Academy Theatre in MCA’s home, The Valencia Arts Center. The performance is Sunday, June 2nd at 3:00 p.m.

Christopher Mechell to give benefit concert- Rescheduled April 14th

Dr. Christopher Mechell will present a classical piano benefit concert for the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) on Sunday, April 14th at 6pm inside the Academy Theatre at MCA’s home, The Valencia Arts Center. The community is invited to enjoy the works of Grieg, Liszt, and Brahms.

Kids ages 7-18 are invited to step into the spotlight

Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre will be back for the fourth consecutive year at Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts. Area students ages 7-18 are invited to join the cast of “Beauty and the Beast.” This original musical production is the tale about an unjust prince, a gypsy curse, and a young girl who sees beyond appearances. Any student registered will be cast in this week-long production. No prior theatre experience is required. All cast members are required to participate in the audition process on April 22 to determine their role. Cast members MUST be available for rehearsals Monday- Friday, 4-8:15 p.m. and performances on Friday, April 26, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. Performances are in MCA’s Academy Theatre at the Valéncia Arts Center.

Heroes Around Us Exhibit

For 50 years, since 1969, the National PTA Reflections arts program has encouraged students across the nation to explore their artistic talents.  PTA Reflections is designed to promote cultural arts in schools, encouraging students to create works of art in photography, literature, visual arts, music, dance, film and special artist categories. During the month of March, which also happens to be Youth Art Month, Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is honored to have the walls of Galleria Valéncia adorned with Minnesota winners of the 2019 MN PTA Reflections arts program.

Registration Open for New 55+ Art Classes

Thanks to a second year of generous grant support from Aroha Philanthropies, Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) will offer 3 unique 8-week workshops for older adults ages 55+ for only $18. The workshops will be focused on creative journaling, watercolor painting, and a special intergenerational printmaking program which will welcome older adults and area youth to participate together. These workshops will take place April 2018- November 2018. Registration is now open for our first two workshops.

MCA Irish Jig Gigs

The Irish Dancers of Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts lead by Alanna Pelowski will be providing several opportunities to experience some Irish dancing by one or all three of MCA’s Irish Dance classes. Performances will happen throughout the Winona area during the month of March. At most of the events there will even be opportunities for the audience to join in and learn a jig or reel step.

We are the Willows Homeschool Songwriting & Storytelling Workshop

Homeschoolers 7-12 and their families are invited to join the musicians of We are the Willows to discuss the creation of their album, Picture (Portrait), based on 350 letters sent between lead singer/songwriter Peter Miller’s grandparents in WWII. This Page Series workshop will take place at the Valencia Arts Center (Home of MN Conservatory for the Arts) on March 29th, 1-2:30 p.m.

What happens when you mix classical music and contemporary dance?

Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) Dance Repertory Company invites you to see an amazing and rare production, Classically Speaking where the music of well-known Classical composers, including Bach, Beethoven, Dvorak, Glazunov, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Schubert is used to accompany contemporary dance forms, including hip hop, rhythm tap, jazz, and modern.

The Dance Repertory Company is MCA’s pre-professional dance troupe. Classically Speaking is the 46th annual spring concert and will be held in the beautiful Page Theatre on the Saint Mary’s University of MN campus on April 12 and 13. This concert will feature 38 area dancers age 11- adult, including 15 Saint Mary’s University students. The concert will feature 5 new and original choreographic works.

Riverway Learning Community Art on display at MCA

The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) is excited to announce that the walls in Galleria Valéncia at MCA are filled with artwork created by Riverway Learning Community students of art educator, Brianna Haupt. The variety of mediums used, subject matter and artistic techniques including monochromatic paintings (paintings consisting of different shades all of one color), Fauvist inspired self portraits, an Australian mask and creative color wheel designs make this exhibit unique and fun for all ages to view.
