The Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts (MCA) and Saint Mary’s University (SMU) Department of Theater and Dance proudly present the Dance Repertory Company in Deeply Rooted Dance: Celebrating our Connections.
In the spotlight today are Saint Mary’s University’s very own Annabeth Kerr and Kyleigh Chandler. Coming in as musical theater majors, Kerr and Chandler were exposed to MCA through Tammy Schmidt, Artistic Director of the Dance Repertory Company and Director of Dance for MCA, right away.
Chandler is in the hip-hop number Unite which is a dance with tribal influences with traditional African and contemporary hip-hop fusion. “Unite is my favorite number because you get to put more style into it” Chandler said.
Chandler auditioned and was cast in MCA’s fall production of The Nutcracker to pursue her passion for dance. Originally a hip-hop dancer, Chandler wanted
to broaden her horizons and decided to try out different forms of dance.
Kerr came to SMU for the theater program and joined MCA as a way to stay involved with dance. Kerr is in Southern Ties that Bind that explores the relationship between a big southern family and the community. Mueve Por Aqui is a high-energy Latin dance and Ti-Pin-Ti is a 40’s jazz number.
Come and support your Saint Mary’s classmates on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 3:00 p.m. at the Page Theatre. To purchase tickets visit: pagetheatre.org or call 507-457-1715.
