Summer is in full swing, but before we know it it will be time to start thinking about back to school and all of the wonderful programs fall will bring.

Open House Schedule:

  • 4:00pm – 7:00pm – Second Chance Dance Sale, Shoe fittings, Tours, Register for classes, Play on our 8-foot floor piano, Win Prizes, Meet MCA Faculty, and  enjoy treats
  • 4:00pm – Learn about our new Pre-school Suzuki Guitar Program
  • 4:00pm- 6:30pm Nutcracker Pre-Audition Workshops (must pre-register, $10 fee, more info)
  • 5:30pm – Guitar Class Demonstration
  • 6:15pm – Ballet 101: Your questions about ballet and our program answered through demonstration and Q & A.

The open house is an excellent opportunity for parents and students to meet instructors and administration, ask questions about classes or attire, tour the facility, get fitted for shoes, register for classes and enter prize drawings.  Not only will families have the opportunity to win MCA swag, but lucky families could also win a gift certificate to Rochester’s premier dance attire store, Blades to Ballet, a pass to Winona’s Indoor Park The Playground or to the Children’s Museum of La Crosse. Other awesome prizes include an online subscription to the new digital magazine a Ballet Education, tickets to a Page Series family show, charming Irish Dance Coasters by artist Angela Foster featuring a photo taken on the streets of Dublin titled “Cobble Clogs”, and a beautiful framed print of a male dancer created by LOFP.

Back by popular demand is our Second Chance Dance Sale. Over the years, MCA has acquired a significant amount of dance shoes and attire that we would like to pass along to a good home. In light of that, we’ve decided to offer it to our patrons at a VERY reduced price. Tables will be set up with items to peruse and all funds raised will be used to support the MCA scholarship fund and other programs. If any MCA families have attire that their dancers have outgrown or has fallen out of use, you may request a table to sell or swap your items as well. There is no charge for families to set up a table, just let Megan in office if you desire one at: mca@smumn.edu or 507-453-5500.  The Second Chance Dance Sale is a great way for us to grow as a community by helping to provide each other with necessities for creating beautiful art.

Additionally, the Open House this year will also feature a variety of info sessions and demonstrations that are free and open to the public. As listed above you are invited to come and learn about our Suzuki Guitar program for preschoolers, Beginning Guitar Class, and Ballet. Anyone 5 years and up interested in auditioning in The Nutcracker can also attend a pre-audition workshop for only $10. Pre-registration is required for the Nutcracker Pre-audition Workshops. We hope to see you on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, 4-7pm at the Valencia Arts Center (MCA’s Home), 1164 W. Howard St., Winona, MN 55987.
